Restorative Yoga

This practice is relaxing, rejuvenating, and nourishing for the body, mind, and spirit.  It helps to relieve stress and fatigue as well as enhance overall well-being.  Restorative poses can be either active or passive and both are well supported.  An example is "Legs-Up-The-Wall"; the active pose is supported with a chair and bolster, while the passive form uses a wall and bolster.  By supporting the body with props, we relax and our being moves toward balance.

Doing Restorative Yoga cultivates the habit of attention to both body and breath.  One can observe where tension is held, and through the practice of conscious breathing, learn to relax and let go.  As the body and mind relax, the nervous system sends and receives fewer messages, allowing quietness and deep relaxation.

Restorative Yoga is highly beneficial to everyone, especially those recovering from illness or surgery and people with such conditions as chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, multiple sclerosis, and Parkinson's disease. It is just as important and beneficial for anyone wanting to simply relax and renew.
